The Australian Sailor Monument is a national project to acknowledge the role of sailors in the discovery, settlement, development and defence of Australia and, in particular, Fremantle in Western Australia.The unique public sculpture will be on the North Mole at Rous Head in Fremantle. Right now, the striking larger-than-life bronze sailor, a centrepiece of the monument, is on temporary display at Elizabeth Quay in Perth.The Federal Government, through the Department of Defence and the Royal Australian Navy, the Western Australian State Government and Lotterywest have committed a combined $1.07 million of funding for the $2 million project.
