Voices of Ascension seeks to build community through the exceptional performance of great works of music for chorus and orchestra. We strive to create transcendent musical experiences where the musicians and audience together enter into the inner truth and beauty of the music. To achieve that goal, we maintain a professional ensemble of the highest artistic level and program the finest repertory from all periods and nationalities. Founded in 1990 at the Church of the Ascension in Greenwich Village, VoA is directed by Artistic Director Dennis Keene, and annually presents a five-concert choral season. Voices of Ascension is an AGMA (American Guild of Musical Artists) signatory and all performers are paid union scale for all concerts. The performers include a core vocal ensemble of 20 professional singers which grows to 40 or more depending on repertoire as well as a professional instrumental ensemble for 2-3 concerts per season. Soloists are drawn from the ensemble and emerging artist programs as well as established artists. More than 60,000 of New York's extremely diverse population have attended VoA performances since 1990. VoA reaches even broader audiences through radio broadcasts and its 14 best-selling recordings on the Delos label and the Grammy-nominated Naxos CD "Song of the Stars" celebrating Catalan music and featuring a lost masterpiece by Enrique Granados.
