We serve children 6 weeks through pre-kindergarten at The Orchard School. Our school is passionate about cultivating fun and inviting learning experiences. We use research based curriculum to foster child interest and create an environment in which students can better comprehend the world around them. Our nationally accredited program facilitates opportunities to make meaningful relationships between concepts, ideas, and imagination. Low student teacher ratios make an environment that promotes more individualized learning and lasting academic benefits. The Orchard School is unique in that we are a Certified Green Business with several LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certifications. This means that our school was built using strategies aimed at using locally sourced/sustainable products, reducing energy & water usage, promoting better indoor air quality, minimizing environmental pollution & waste, and improving quality of life. Our philosophy at The Orchard is growing children with a healthy mind-body-spirit, as well as an appreciation of the Earth and ways to sustain it. We teach environmental responsibility with our gardening, composting, and recycling programs. From planting, nurturing and harvesting vegetables and herbs from our very own garden, students learn ways to use what we have to get what we need. All organic food waste is collected and composted. Rain water is harvested from the rain barrel, and the soil made is used to feed our garden. Students create sustainable habits that carry on into adulthood by separating trash from recycling, reducing waste, and creatively reusing classroom materials. Our school family believes in a comprehensive classroom management and social-emotional program that creates a learning environment where children will know "I am safe. I am loved." From this foundation of safety and caring, children will begin learning how to solve conflicts. Manage their emotions, and take responsibility for their actions. Our program includes activities for uniting, disengaging stress, connection, and commitment. Designed for students and teachers to do together, practices help develop a sense of belonging, teach children how to calm themselves when they are upset, and provide them with opportunities to build healthy friendships. We incorporate breathing techniques and yoga practice as well. Daily practice with our program helps to increase attention span, fosters cooperation, and teaches children to make and follow through on pledges to keep their classroom safe and take responsibility for their actions. Our teachers are highly skilled, degreed professionals committed to instilling a lifelong love for learning in a mindful, kind, and creative way. Students are given tools needed to understand the connections between self, others, and the Earth; fostering opportunities to channel their spirit and light in positive directions.
