The goal of Community Outreach Service Center (COSC) is to meet the basic needs of the homeless and poor residents of the Denver metropolitan area while increasing their ability to become and remain self-sufficient. The overarching outcome of Charity's House is to reduce the rate of recidivism among African-American male ex-offenders in northeast Denver, moving the client from dependency to healthy self-sufficiency.In 1988, COSC was established as a recognized 501©3 Nonprofit to serve the Agape Christian Church community as it stood at a flash point of violence, destruction and devastation in 1988. Now in a new century and new decade, COSC remains as an anchor in the Five Points community quietly serving the needs of all residents, which remain the same despite the economic revitalization gentrification has yielded.High priority concerns include basic needs (food, clothing and housing), employment referral, and youth and family programs to increase self-sufficiency. COSC still provides a wide array of services for adults including a food pantry, clothing bank, a community kitchen, spiritual and personal counseling, parenting classes, employment counseling, classes in entrepreneurship and computer instruction. Over 4 decades, COSC has served neighborhood youth through tutoring programs for students temporarily suspended from school, youth leadership programs, and youth job readiness and job placements.Charity House Ministries program goals are as follows:1. To provide safe affordable housing for ex-offenders working to re-enter society.2. To prepare the client for the drug-free years ahead.3. To re-unite fathers with their children and families.4. To identify behavior patterns that have brought them to this stage in their lives.5. To raise the awareness of infectious disease and how easy it is to become infected, and a carrier of these sexually transmitted and pandemic diseases (Tuberculosis, Hepatitis, COVID-19) due to their behavior and environment.
