Member Board Of Trustees at STROOD COMMUNITY PROJECT LIMITED - Rochester, England, United Kingdom
Strood Community Project offers advice, hope and practical support to achieve a happy, confident and prosperous Strood. Our main base of operation is our Advice Centre at 123-125 High St Strood at which we have trained staff and volunteers enabling us to provide advice on all subjects five mornings a week. Note that many issues will require subsequent meetings in order to resolve more complex or technical enquiries. One of our main areas of work is to provide training, guidance and support to those who are unfortunately out of work. Whilst we are contracted to provide support to JSA and ESA claimants on the Work Programme this is not a limitation on our service and we will happily see anyone who approaches us.English and maths tuition is available to anyone (not in work) needing to improve their skills or maybe needing to gain a qualifcation to progress in education or employment, and our computer skills training centre is always busy with classes of those learning new skills. On Tuesdays and Fridays our IT centre at St Francis Church serves as a UK Online Centre at which anyone can come on a 'turn-up-and-go' basis to access the internet. These sessions are staffed by volunteers who are able to assist with newcomers to the world wide web.The centre is supported by a Strood Community Project shop opened next door. Funds raised will contribute towards the rent and overheads on the centre. Donated goods - clothes, music/ video, bric-brac, etc - are gratefully received.Paul Robinson, General Manager, says, 'To make this work in the long term we need to be generating income so that we are not dependant on grants. We would therefore welcome the support of everyone in Strood, whether donors of goods or purchasers.' Vehicular access is available at the rear of the premises for those bringing goods to the shop.
