Founded in 1976 by architects Douglas Johnston and Ian Davidson, Johnston Davidson Architecture and Planning Inc. (JDa) is a Vancouver-based architecture design firm specializing in the creative design and development of public projects within health care, emergency services, fire hall design, government and residential sectors. Established on the mentality that every contribution to public space - no matter the project size or scope - is an opportunity to positively shape community, the JDa team treats each new project with enthusiasm, consistent attention, community integration, client focus and efficiency. With over 200 completed projects across British Columbia and Alberta, our team takes pride in contributing to the Canadian architectural landscape while working alongside diverse user groups throughout the years. Today the legacy of JDa is carried through Douglas Johnston's daughter, principal and Lead Architect Kimberly Johnston. Between Kimberly, Senior Associate John Botelho, Associate Edward Craig and JDa Intern Architects (and Louie the office dog!) our team brings over 50 years of combined experience in sustainable design, construction and team management. Using our years of experience and understanding, the JDa team approaches each project with the understanding that the consistent attention of client needs and community/environmental impact of the site are managed thoughtfully and thoroughly by considering all opportunities for green development and creative approach. As a result, each design produced through our office is a creative response to the unique combination of site, community and client. Our objective is to share the client's vision and transform it from a concept to a reality. We are a tight-knit, hands-on team, and we believe the most rewarding architecture is realized by how it serves the client, community and area.
