LUSA operates since 1987 and is today the biggest news agency in the Portuguese language worldwide. Lusa was formed as a merge from 2 previous agencies (ANOP and ANI ). Although LUSA is owned in 50,15% by the state, 6 (six) private organizations control the rest of the capital; the annual revenues are around 17 million Euros. LUSA holds bureaus in all Portuguese district capitals and is present in 21 countries: bureaus in Bissau (Guinea-Bissau), Praia (Cape Verde), Luanda (Angola), Maputo (Mozambique), Dili (East Timor), Macau (China), Madrid (Spain) and Brussels (Belgium); and correspondents in Berlin, London, Paris, São Paulo, Brasília, Johannesburg, Toronto, New York, California, and Beijing.
