MISSIONTeatro De Artes De Juan Seguin promotes a better understanding of the Mexican-American culture by the teaching, study, practice, and performance of the arts.We incorporates a three prong approach to community education by reaching as many community members, students, artists & those interested in learning about the Mexican American culture. COMMUNITY BASED PROGRAMSFirst approach includes: ballet folklórico and mariachi music classes offered weekly that end in a Recital; poetry/prose sessions; cultural/historical lectures; traditional community events (Dia De Los Muertos); Dance Workshops; Sunday in the Park Concert (collaboration with City of Seguin Mainstreet); Viva Seguin! Conjunto Festival; & Noche De Gala.CENTER BASED PROGRAMSSecond approach embraces sharing arts and culture through: poetry readings; multiple medium exhibits; Texas Lutheran University internships; high school internships; Tejano/cultural history lectures and demonstrations; community leaders' meetings; arts and agroecology summer camp; culinary arts classes; craft & culture after school program; and school children field trips (cultural experiences) to the Center to name a few.SCHOOL BASED PROGRAMSWe take pride in educating the young to understand different cultures and offer a wide variety of arts programming. We offer mariachi classes to 3rd-12th graders with close coordination with local public schools Mariachi programs; outreach Conjunto classes & presentations for discipline alternative schools; in-school ballet folklórico classes which are offered to students in conjunction with music, bilingual, PE teachers; ballet folklórico classes in an after-school program; school performances during school wide assemblies and evening PTA meetings; and Visiting Artists (visual, hands-on, music, paint, etc.) Teatro's activities have been approved by the School Board of rustees as Extra-Curricular activities and is approved by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) as an Afterschool Center.
