Nelson Nursery has been family owned by Mike and Jacie Lemke since 1979. The current Zimmerman location dates back to the early 1900' s. The original barn and home are still standing that belonged to former owner, Dick Nelson. Today Nelson Nursery operates a wholesale growing range as well as a large retail garden center in Zimmerman, MN. The growing range consists of two locations with 11 greenhouses on 4 acres of land. In April of 2009 a new 'state of the art' garden center opened. With 10,000 square feet of inside space, it has in-floor heating, along with a roof that opens and closes on demand, depending on the temperature and wind. The building also has energy curtains the cover the roof and sides to help insulate the interior from the cold or protect it from the heat of the sun. Customers walk into the retail beginning in late April, and say 'wow' to the beautiful display of flowers everywhere. Nelson Nursery's mission is to create the ultimate shopping experience for the home gardener, from their quality of customer service to product selection. The wholesale growing part of the company offers a wide selection of bedding plants to local nurseries and fundraising groups. In the fall beginning in October, Nelson Nursery is a big producer of Christmas wreaths, garland and specialty items made from northern Minnesota balsam fir. They ship nationwide to nurseries and fundraising groups.
