In 1956, Lewis County Fire District 6 was established because of a fire at Yard Birds (Chehalis, WA) that was outside the city limits. The first commissioners were Joe Kraemer, Dean Murray, and Howard Holt. The first Fire Chief was Noel Cole. The commissioners borrowed $20,000 to purchase an engine, equipment, and have little money to run the district for the year. The first engine was purchased May 1957.The District presently has: 6 Compressed Air Foam (CAF) Engines3 CAF Tenders3 Water Tenders1 Command Vehicle1 Maintenance Vehicle1 Air Trailer1 Mass Casualty trailer,1 Heavy Rescue (ability to transport)1 AmbulanceOn May 01, 2001 the Advance Life Support program began with the ability to transport. Currently the district has 7 paramedics and 24 EMT's.
