The NatureSpace District Licence Scheme is designed to save time and give certainty to developers whilst providing high-quality conservation of great crested newts. NatureSpace Partnership designed, manages and delivers the District Licensing Scheme for great crested newts operating in many authorities across England. We work with developers and participating local authorities to assess development proposals under the scheme, advising on the scheme's requirements. All costs to use the scheme are proportionate to the net impact of development. The scheme was developed by a consortium of organisations – The Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust, Freshwater Habitats Trust and Nature Metrics – in conjunction with the South Midlands local planning authorities. NatureSpace delivers the scheme to alleviate development issues surrounding great crested newts and to improve the conservation status of newts simultaneously. The scheme is being delivered in:Bedford Borough, Buckinghamshire (Ex AVDC area), Central Bedfordshire, Cherwell District, Cheltenham Borough, Cotswold District, Forest of Dean District, Gloucester City, Gloucester County, Milton Keynes, North Northamptonshire, Oxford City, Oxford County, Stroud District, South Oxfordshire District, Tewkesbury Borough, Vale of the White Horse District, West Northamptonshire and West Oxfordshire District. The scheme will shortly be going live across local authorities in East Sussex.
