Maplewood, incorporated in 1957, is a city in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States, is a first ring suburb with about 40,500 people in the Twin Cities metropolitan area, about 15 minutes from downtown Saint Paul. Maplewood has more than 30 parks and a great trail system. Under this form of government, all legislative power is vested in the elected, part-time City Council. This Council consists of a Mayor and four Councilmembers who are elected at large for four-year staggered terms. The Council adopts policies and ordinances and appoints a professional, full-time City Manager to carry them out.
