The Arc of Dallas is a 501(c)(3) membership nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life for people with intellectual and related developmental disabilities. It was formed in 1951 by a group of parents who joined forces to fight for their children's rights to be educated in the public school system. The Arc of today still serves as a voice in the local, state and national community.Arcs are found throughout the country and are affiliated with the parent organization, The Arc of The United States, and state subsidiaries (The Arc of Texas). All Arcs hold to a common set of core values and positions related to quality of life, inclusion, rights, etc. These position statements have been adopted by The Arc's general membership. The Arc of Dallas offers both advocacy and direct services. Funding is derived through a variety of sources including personal donations, foundation and corporate grants, special events and United Way. The Arc of Dallas currently employs eleven in-house staff and numerous contract staff.The Arc of Dallas service area includes Collin, Dallas and Rockwall counties. Most programs and services take place in local communities and neighborhoods in conjunction with community partners including schools, churches, recreation centers, and others.
