Lake Washington Parent Toddler Group (LWTG) is a non-profit parenting education co-op program sponsored by Lake Washington Institute of Technology, serving Eastside families since 1980. The mission of our program is to promote the development of knowledge and skills for strong and healthy families. Parents who join become students of Lake Washington Institute of Technology and will receive college credit. What We DoLWTG serves parents of children between the ages of 5 and 39 months. We provide parents and toddlers with a semi-structured classroom environment to experience social and creative activities together. We also have classes for siblings and families. Visit our Classes page for more information.Education For ParentsA key component of LWTG is our in-class parenting education sessions. Each parent is offered an opportunity to participate in parenting education sessions to help them better understand their child's behavior and development. While half of the parents supervise the toddlers' activities, the other half form a group with the teacher to discuss an age-appropriate topic (i.e. understanding children's development, family communication, discipline techniques, etc). The teacher functions an educator, an advisor and a professional resource. Participation in these sessions offers an opportunity for parents to become directly involved in the education of their own children and to be involved in their own education as parents.Your Toddler Will Love It!In the toddler classroom, group time is a fun opportunity for all parents and children to learn songs, finger plays and stories together. This time stimulates the imagination and creative expression, as well as develops a sense of community. It also increases the toddlers' attention and develops the skill of following directions. If you and your child have enjoyed spending time with other parents in a playgroup setting, LWTG is an ideal next step as your child enters toddler-hood.
