Shalom, a Peace Church Community of Brother Francis and Sister Clare is a new church community that gathers in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh. We are a diverse community where it's safe to grapple with the difficult questions of faith and life.Grew up in the church, but don't know what to do about it now? Didn't grow up in the church, but wanting to explore faith in a safe and loving community? We hope you'll be a part of us!Our life together is marked by the peace-making, contemplative, charismatic, liturgical, communal, disciple-making, kingdom-seeking, post-modern, Trinitarian, missional, and emergent movements of the church. We have been influenced by the Christian community development and intentional community movements. As we deeply value the witness from the Church fathers and mothers, we pursue the guidance of St Francis and St Clare of Assisi as we seek to follow Jesus with reckless abandon. We seek to be incarnational and multi-ethnic. Our core values are love, humility, and justice. Our practice flows from the understanding that "Jesus in unity with the Father and the Holy Spirit is the Lord and Savior of all that is." We plan for our main lived mission as a community to be one of presence to the sick and dying in the myriad hospitals surrounding Oakland.
