St. Michael's by-the-Sea is an theologically orthodox Anglo-Catholic Episcopal Church located in the coastal Village of Carlsbad, California. The parish has sought to live out its Anglican identity along the splendid coastline of Carlsbad, California. St. Michael's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church is the oldest church in Carlsbad. It was established by families of the early English settlers. The chapel was built in 1894 and is one of the four oldest buildings in the village. The church was built in 1959, designed by Albert Fry, father of desert-modern architecture.The Lord Jesus Christ is the center of this spiritual community. Morning and Evening Prayer and the Holy Eucharist are offered daily in addition to the spiritual sacraments of Reconciliation (Confession), Baptism, Holy Communion, Confirmation (Catechumenate), Marriage, Holy Unction and Burials.The mission of St. Michael's by-the-Sea is to be a beacon of God's truth and love; through the richness of traditional Anglican worship, by equipping the saints to bear witness to Christ wherever they may be, and by sharing in Christ's work of reconciliation and healing in the world. The mission at St. Michael's is lived out through a wide variety of parish ministries that touch the entire community. With an active campus, there are currently 18 Ministries that host up to 50 annual events, in addition to daily Prayer and Eucharistic worship.
