The Global Health Policy and Data Institute (GPHI) was established in 2014 as an affiliate with the University of California, San Diego and is now a 501(c)(3) also operating under the name the Global Data Policy Institute. The goal of the Institute is to respond to critical policy, data science, law, governance, and regulatory problems in global health through multidisciplinary engagement in research, advocacy, and capacity building. The mission of GHPI is to address important and underserved issues in global health, engage a broad array of stakeholders in problem solving and consensus building, and lead in the development of data-driven evidence-based policymaking.
