After James Roe passed away in 1967, he was succeeded as president and majority shareholder by his son, John E. Roe, Sr., who had joined the firm in 1960. Under his leadership, CUA established itself as a leading regional insurance broker, diversifying into the healthcare and transportation fields.In 1984, CUA moved its corporate offices from New York City to Long Island. In 1986, John Sr.'s son, John E. Roe, Jr., joined the family business. Like his father before him, John Jr. expanded the agency, making it a prominent player in the surety bond and group benefits arenas. In 1997, he assumed the title of president and majority shareholder with John Sr. continuing as chairman.
