The Corporation of the Township of Terrace Bay is a progressive organization responsible for the governance of the Community. Terrace Bay is a rural Township of 1,800 people with a strong business community of 50 businesses that provide all the essential goods and services and more. We have an excellent working relationship with our friendly neighbouring community of Schreiber and their 1,200 residents as well. Terrace Bay's economy is driven by the forestry industry with major employer AV Terrace Bay Inc. and its 380 person workforce. The Municipality has a mayor and four councillors that govern with the support of 16 full-time staff in the departments of administration, finance, recreation, maintenance, public works, and library. The Township also has a part-time, casual and seasonal staff component that includes the fire department, tourism and summer students. The Township maintains numerous buildings open to the public including the Recreation Centre, Arena, Tourism Info Centre, Fire Department, Cultural Centre which includes the Public Library, Seniors Centre and Michael King Hall. The Community has seen much growth in the past 5 years including: $8 million Wilkes Terrace Long-Term Care wing at The McCausland Hospital, $3 million Downtown Revitalization, $2 million renovation of a Cultural Centre, and a planned investment of $250 million at AV Terrace Bay Inc. from 2014-2016. Terrace Bay has been recognized in the past 3 years with awards for Excellence in Tourism, Best of the Lake 2012, 2013 & 2014, and the prestigious Entrepreneurial Community of the year 2010/2011.
