Odyssey Seminars was started by Dr. Mike Rogers to develop interactive courses for physical therapists designed to offer a unique approach to the treatment of neck & lower back pain through the integrating of multiple manual therapy approaches. His 40 plus years of training and clinical experience in treating neck & lower back pain has been influenced by these approaches in many different ways.It was through years of clinical practice treating thousands of patients with neck and back pain that Dr. Rogers learned how to best synthesize what he was learning into this unique and pragmatic approach to treatment of neck & lower back pain. Instead of "throwing the baby out with the bath water" and jumping from one approach in favor of another, he was able to combine various approaches in manual therapy into a new best practice by keeping the most effective parts of each and integrating them into clinical practice. Relevant evidence-based clinical research/information and treatment approaches are presented in the courses and correlated with this combined approach to manual therapy.A biomechanical clinical decision-making algorithm [Plane of Movement Model] that generates pragmatic classification categories for lower back pain that serve as a guide to treatment options will be presented. Treatment options generated by the algorithm that both the specialist and non-specialist PT can immediately integrate into clinical practice using the "3-E" approach" The "3-E" approach utilizes a combined treatment approach of Education/Exercise/External Forces as the key components to effective management of musculoskeletal disorders.Examples of evaluation and treatment techniques currently used by the instructor from multiple manual therapy schools of thought are presented along with case studies in which the specific interventions were applied. The screening/evaluation techniques and treatment interventions used in the case studies are presented throughout the course during practical lab sessions with a focus on a hands-on experience.
