The Wisconsin Initiative for Neighborhoods and Schools that Work for Children, or WINS for Children, is an initiative modeled on the Harlem Children's Zone and other evidence-based programs. Its purpose is to align resources to provide children with the full range of family and community supports they need to achieve academic proficiency, gain access to social and economic opportunity, and transition to productive adulthood. WINS for Children exists to support the goals of the Lindsay Heights Children's Success Coalition (LHCSC), an association of Lindsay Heights youth-serving agencies and school leaders, as well as external community stakeholders, which works to increase academic achievement in the Lindsay Heights neighborhood. WINS currently helps the LHCSC in the development of measurable goals and outcomes as well as in the operationalization of those goals. WINS for Children is incorporated as a 501(c)(3) organization in Wisconsin; governed by a Board of community leaders, senior public officials, and civic leaders; and financed with blended city, state and federal funds matched with public and private sources of support. The immediate beneficiaries of the work of WINS for Children will be all children living in or attending schools in Lindsay Heights.
