The International Accord is a legally-binding agreement between garment brands and trade unions designed to make Ready-Made Garment (RMG) factories safe. The parties to this agreement commit to the health and safety work already undertaken in Bangladesh and to the expansion of additional country-specific health and safety programs. The health and safety programs include:- independent fire, electrical, structural and boiler safety inspections- development of Corrective Actions Plans (CAPs) with remediation timelines- remediation monitoring through regular follow-up inspections & CAP updates- escalation procedures to warn factories of inadequate remediation progress leading to termination of business if these efforts do not succeed- financing remediation procedures to ensure that remediation is financially feasible- worker awareness program through all employee meetings and dissemination of booklets-Safety Committee training program- Independent OSH complaints mechanism available to all workers in covered factories
