NeoTree Limited, a non-profit organisation for an mHealth solution to reduce newborn deaths in low-income countriesThe problem: 2.8 million newborns die every year worldwide. Leaders in newborn health have highlighted gaps in quality of newborn care in hospitals. Identified gaps include lack of trained newborn health care workers (HCWs) and data information systems. Our solution: The NeoTree application --In partnership with frontline HCWs, using modern agile software development techniques we are developing The NeoTree app Objectives - to improve quality of newborn care and- reduce newborn deaths low-resource settingsNeoTree It will be used on low-cost android tablets or phone devices at the hospital bedside by HCWs (primarily nurses) supporting their care and treatment of sick newborns. The app offers an integrated platform for 3 functions: An Immediate digital data collection system for newborn data linked A newborn diagnostic and management decision tool according to an evidence based algorithm A newborn health education programFeatures:- works off-line to synch with network when available - pre-configurable for different levels of resource or countries- open-source code. - potential to support daily clinical updates as an electronic medical record (EMR), - linkage with community/antenatal initiativesOur vision: is for the NeoTree to be used by all types of HCW in newborn facilities across low-income countries. With this in mind we have two test sites: Malawi and Zimbabwe.Outstanding Funding: Currently we seek to fund phase 4 (~£120,000) (budget available on request) and phase 5 (budget to be confirmed).
