An initiative was started by ACWAPower International for the establishment of a not for profittechnical institute with an aims for the training and rehabilitation of young Saudis to work as operators and technicians in the field of water desalination and power technologiesThe initiative was translated into an agreement that was signed with the Technical and VocationalTraining Corporation (TVTC) in 2008, and the Higher Institute of Water and Power Technologies (HIWPT) was officially launched in the Governorate of Rabigh as part of a Strategic Partnership program between the private and public sectorsOn the 24th September 2011, the Higher Institute for Water and Power Technologies (HIWPT) started its first day of training operation with over 100 high school graduate Trainees belonging to eight sponsor companies. Currently HIWPT is operating at a capacity of 591 trainees attending Academic and Technical trainingThe establishment and opening of the Institute has been ACWAPower priority corporate responsibility in order to build an organization that can share in the training of the Saudi youth and support the Industrial organizations development in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.HIWPT provides industrial specialized vocational training to regional High school graduates who will join the Saudi Arabian water desalination and power generation sector as skilled and certified operators and technicians.All the trainees have secured employment contracts with guaranteed jobs from their Sponsoring companies at the end of the 2½ year program, 2 year academic learning program, and half year on job training (OJT) at sponsor company facilities (New Solar Power Training Program is a 3 year Program)The continuity of HIWPT success is assured by the strong strategic partnerships that have been established with government authorities, water and power infrastructure sector partners, industry leaders, equipment manufacturers, International Training providers and plant operators
