The Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust (LRBT) is a charity organization which is devoted to the prevention of curable blindness and impaired vision in people who live around the poverty line. Although 80% of blindness is curable, most of it due to cataract, lack of facilities and the inability to afford the treatment/surgery expands the pool of blindness. Over the last 32 years we have been instrumental in reducing the prevalence of blindness from 1.8 % to 0.9 % of the population. However there are still 1.8 million blind people in the country and another 17.9 million have impaired vision, so there is a huge amount to do.We are now operating 19 Hospitals and 52 Community Eye Care Centres & 4 Outreach Clinics. During the year ending June'17 we treated over 2.9 million poor patients in OPD and performed over 267,000 major & minor surgeries free. LRBT is the major provider of eye care in the country treating 36% of all eye patients, performing 27.4% of eye surgeries and 32% of all Pediatric eye surgeries. We crossed the 38th Millionth patient treated milestone in February 2018 and will be reaching the 39th Millionth patient milestone by end June 2018. LRBT impacts & improves the life of more patients than any NPO in the country.
