For change to take root, we need to systematically address environmental factors that keep underprivileged children tied down in poverty: lack of proper schooling, poor nutrition, domestic violence, exposure to crime, access to drugs, and a paucity of success stories to inspire change. In addition, we must also change children's own attitudes about their lives: lack of confidence and a generational resignation to fate.
