FairWarning (www.fairwarning.org) is a nonprofit investigative news organization. Robust journalism is a public good, and essential to a well-functioning democracy. It's especially important in a democracy on the ropes, as ours may be. Yet across the country we see a hollowing out of newsrooms and a glut of celebrity clickbait and fact-free rants. FairWarning's watchdog reporting helps readers to be better informed and act to improve society. We're helping to prevent injuries and deaths by influencing the choices of consumers, regulators and businesses. And with environmental, consumer and labor standards under powerful attack by the Trump administration, the need for our authoritative reporting is greater than ever.FairWarning focuses on public health, workplace, consumer and environmental issues, and related topics of government and business accountability. We publish on our website, and in print, online and broadcast editions of news organizations across the U.S. Our deeply reported stories have appeared in more than 150 media outlets.FairWarning is based in Southern California. Its founder and editorial director is Myron Levin, previously a Los Angeles Times staff writer for more than 20 years and member of the paper's California investigations desk. At The Times, he did path-breaking investigations of the tobacco industry, auto and tire safety, real estate fraud and other subjects, and won a number of honors and awards.FairWarning is guided by a distinguished board of directors, including Michael Connelly, the best-selling crime novelist; Bill Marimow, former editor and two-time Pulitzer Prize winner at The Philadelphia Inquirer; David Vladeck, Georgetown University law professor and former director of the Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Consumer Protection; and Margaret Engel, executive director of the Alicia Patterson Foundation. Support has come from more than 30 foundations and from hundreds of individual donors.
