At L'Arche, people with and without intellectual disabilities live, work, and learn together, creating communities of friendship and belonging. L'Arche strives to shape a more human and just society. It is a way of life and a model of care. L'Arche Kapiti is a small intentional community in Paraparaumu New Zealand. It is a dynamic example of how people of different abilities, cultures and religions can learn to share life together. It is an intentional and inclusive community grounded in spirituality that celebrates, respects and welcomes the diversity of everyone's gifts. We strive to reveal the dignity of every human being by building a community of faith and belonging, where people with and without intellectual disabilities live together in family-style homes. L'Arche Kapiti is part of a network of over 150 L'Arche communities around the world.OPPORTUNITIES: Come and be a part of our intentional community as an Assistant! Assistant teams support Core Members (adults with intellectual disabilities) by sharing in their daily life. We cook and eat dinner together, get together with friends, participate in activities in our neighbourhoods, go on vacation together, and celebrate often. Through friendship and relationships with Core Members, Assistants gain valuable life skills, opportunities for personal growth and self direction, as well as enhanced leadership abilities. Being an Assistant is more than a job, it is an exceptional and life changing adventure in friendship and self-discovery.There are also opportunities to transfer to one of 156 L'Arche communities around the world. Some of our roles are Live-In where compensation and subsidized room and board are provided. Assistant roles are full-time. We hire people from a wide variety of educational backgrounds.
