This region was built on the back of agriculture, which still plays an important role in the economy of the Southland District.Southland District Council manages around 30,979 square kilometres of the Deep South, home to more than 29.000 people. We look after most of Southland (excluding Gore & Invercargill which have their own councils).Southland District Council is responsible for the day-to-day running of our communities - looking after water, wastewater, stormwater, rubbish, animal control, cemeteries, environmental health, libraries, parks and reserves and roading.
