Vision Statement The Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth furthers mutual understanding and ongoing engagement between Japanese and Americans. We provide quality programs in arts and culture, education, business, public policy, and international exchange, and create opportunities for friendship and meaningful interaction. Mission The Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth is the catalyst for vibrant, lasting interaction between the people of North Texas and Japan, impacting lives in a spirit of enduring friendship and trust. History The Japan-America Society of Dallas was founded in 1970 to promote friendship and understanding between Japanese and Americans in Dallas. The organization changed its name in 1995 to affirm its commitment to serve the entire Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Significant accomplishments include: raising $186,000 for earthquake and tsunami recovery in Sendai, Japan (2011); establishment of the Sun & Star Legacy Award, given annually for distinguished leadership in U.S.-Japan relations (1998); negotiation of an International Friendship City agreement between Dallas and Sendai, Japan (1997); and dedication of a Japanese stone lantern at the Dallas Arboretum in commemoration of 25 years of U.S.-Japan friendship in Dallas (1995). Membership Membership in the Japan-America Society is open to all individuals, corporations, and other organizations interested in U.S.-Japan relations. Membership offers valuable opportunities for interaction on many levels—to make new business contacts, to meet new friends, to practice language skills, and to understand cultural differences.
