The mission of Nashirah is to bring Jewish choral music of the highest caliber to the community. Jewish choral music, as defined by the Nashirah, includes music either sacred or secular, by composers either born or culturally Jewish; and music by composers who are non-Jewish, but whose work draws from Tanach texts or other Jewish sources.Nashirah is a community-based chorus committed to promoting unity within the Jewish cultural community, and between Jewish and non-Jewish cultural communities, by inviting participation from the entire community without regard to denomination, faith, or geographic area. We welcome all singers who possess the requisite vocal and musicianship skills and who wish to sing our repertoire.Nashirah is committed to serving the Greater Philadelphia Jewish community through high-quality performance in appropriate venues, serving as a positive face for the community in all venues in which it participates. In this capacity, it is committed to acting in an ambassadorial context to Jewish, interfaith, and secular communities both within and outside the Greater Philadelphia area.Nashirah is committed to educating its audiences in the rich tradition of Jewish choral music.Nashirah is committed to fostering educational exchange, tolerance, and understanding between the Jewish community and other religious, ethnic, and racial communities through the sharing of music.
