The flagship league for ice hockey in Australia, the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) is a not for profit organisation and is comprised of eight teams from across the country. The AIHL showcases over 100 regular season games annually from April through September. Fans can tune in live to games weekly on YouTube through AIHL.TV and also watch the AIHL Game of the Week, broadcast on FoxSports Australia and Kayo every Thursday.Teams include: the Sydney Ice Dogs and the Sydney Bears; the Melbourne Ice and the Melbourne Mustangs; the Newcastle North Stars; the CBR Brave (Canberra), the Adelaide Adrenaline; and the Perth Thunder. The 2019 season is proudly supported by APA Group and culminates with the AIHL Finals presented by Air Canada on 31 August - 1 September. Four teams will compete for the Goodall Cup in Newcastle, NSW. The Goodall Cup, named after John Edwin Goodall, has been competed for annually since 1909 and is one the longest-standing ice hockey trophies in the world. While the AIHL was incorporated in 2000, Australia has a long history of ice hockey competitions. The first interstate league between New South Wales and Victoria was contested in the early 1900s. The AIHL attracts quality talent from across the world and plays a role in developing Australian talent, such as Nathan Walker, the first AIHL player to be drafted and play in the NHL.
