Embiara Lodge (S-019.35.976/W056.06.430) is situated in what is considered to be the heart of the southern Pantanal region on the river bank of the beautiful Rio Negro ("Black River"). Campo Grande (the Capital of Mato Grosso do Sul) is the nearest major town to the Lodge, and has a domestic airport. This Pantanal region is known for its unique landscape, which contains brackish and fresh water lakes surrounded by native forests, a pristine river, marshland, flooding fields and an abundance of wildlife. Embiara Lodge has flooding fields (Vazante do Castelo e do Periquito) running through its property. These magnificent flood planes are very similar to those of the Okavango delta in Africa, which attract huge numbers of birds and mammals. The flooding in the Pantanal is truly a spectacular sight to behold, and it makes Embiara Lodge a very unique and special place to visit. Our lodge, unlike other lodges, is nestled in a vibrant forest that borders the Rio Negro, in the heart of the southern Pantanal Region, some 120 km from the nearest town Aquidauana, which in turn is some 140 km from Campo Grande. We have viewed over 400 of the 700 species of birds found in the region and have viewed most of the mammals including but not limited to the Jaguar, giant otter, maned wolf and other.
