My wife & I have funded Ethiopian wells' construction for 7 years, actively fund raising for the past 3. Self-funded visits show the results of providing clean water – better health, education & reduced working hours for women (they still work far too many hours) being obvious standouts. We're ordinary people who feel very much for our Ethiopian bretheren living in circumstances beyond their control. We are as fortunate to live in developed countries as they are unfortunate to be born into such abject poverty & suffering, with little chance of improvement without assistance. The water wells programme helps break the cycle.140 wells have been built since 2002, changing forever the lives of some 80,000 people. We're building another 40 next year, from funds raised during 08/09 financial year, benefiting up to another 20,000.Some of benefits of this "clean water" project:• Current infant mortality rate of up to 20% due to water-borne diseases will be substantially reduced.• Daily usage per person increases from about 4 polluted litres to 12 litres clean water.• Life expectancy extends by up to 10 yrs.• Women (& usually their daughters) no longer walk a daily average of 3 hrs to collect polluted water.• Improved health & financial circumstances substantially reduces domestic violence.I'd like to add you to our mailing list, to receive our FREE quarterly Newsletter. There's absolutely NO obligation to make donations but of course, they‘re always welcomed. Over 95% of donations go to Ethiopia for the wells project. The balance covers postage, newsletter costs, credit card fees, etc. All admin work in Australia is on a volunteer basis. Donations within Australia & the US are tax deductible.Making people aware of the plight of the other 1.1 billion people in the world without access to clean water is also a major objective of WellWishers.
