Dressfolk is a direct-to-consumer fashion company, exclusively for women. It was founded in 2017. The company emerged out of a simple thought of converting Indian crafts into comfort contemporary clothing to make it more relevant to the modern maverick community of women. However, today, apart from what it produces, Dressfolk deals with bigger and greater goals like bringing sustainability in fashion which is the second most polluting industry in the world. Dressfolk incorporates only eco-friendly elements and natural processes in the production of its garments. The production takes place in the native region of whichever craft is being used. The company works directly with the artisans who handcraft each garment and no middle-men are involved. It believes in providing the artisans with what they have earned and deserve. It also aims at breaking the monotonous and dull tone of apparel design. Hence, each piece is handcrafted and as unique as the person who adorns it.Currently, Dressfolk is predominantly working on Dabu craft, which is a mud resist hand-block printing technique performed with a paste made from four elements clay, limestone, acacia gum and wheat powder. The dyes used in this method are also eco-friendly. It is craft native to the Bagru and Akola villages of Rajasthan. Dressfolk intends to make all Indian crafts a part of this endeavour , one motif at a time.
