The South African Red Cross Society is a member organisation of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), which is the largest volunteer driven organisation on earth. Our mission of the South African Red Cross Society is to render services to prevent, alleviate human suffering and to foster human dignity in all communities by addressing the basic needs of the people in accordance with the fundamental principles of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement.Our vision is for the South African Red Cross Society (SARCS) to be a democratic service organization that is effective, high profile, dynamic, sensitive to the needs of all communities and acting within the fundamental principles of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement. Our core work focuses significantly on health and care services in addition to community-led disaster risk reduction priorities. SA Red Cross Society also implements further programs that are off international significance, i.e. the restoration of Family Links, Dissemination of the Fundamental Principles and International Humanitarian Law (IHL). These programs are crucial for the SA Red Cross Society to be responsible during peacetime and times of conflict.
