January 1, 2012 is a historic date for our territory. 49 municipalities have united to create Nice Côte d'Azur Metropolis. This new form of organization brings together the Urban Community of Nice Côte d'Azur, the Community of Communes of Vésubie, the Community of Communes of Tinée, the Community of Communes of the Mercantour resorts and the Municipality of Tour-sur-Tinée. Here is the history of this new organization: In June 2009 the 3 conurbation (Vésubie-Mercantour, La Tinée and Stations du Mercantour), representing 20,000 inhabitants, deliberated to request their attachment to the Nice Côte d'Azur Urban Community. With the Law of Reform of Territorial Communities passed on December 16, 2010 allowing the creation of Metropolises, this merger was made possible. Wednesday April 13, 2011: Decisions of the 4 intermunicipalities to launch the process for Nice Metropolis creation. Thursday, April 21, 2011: Order of the Prefect on the perimeter project From May to August 2011:Deliberation of all municipalities on the draft perimeter and statutes. - The Municipal Councils of the cities: - Nice, on 16 May 2011; - Saint-Martin-Vésubie, on 18 May 2011; - Isola, Saint-Etienne-de-Tinée, Marie and the Communauté de Communes des stations du Mercantour, on 20 May 2011; - Saint-Dalmas-le-Selvage, on 21 May 2011; all voted for the project of perimeter and status of the Metropolis. June 2011: Decisions of the General Council and the Regional Council which gave their opinion on the scope. September 2011: Deliberation of the Departmental Commission for Intermunicipal Cooperation (CDCI) Monday October 17, 2011: Decree creating the Nice Côte d'Azur Metropolis on January 1, 2012 Monday January 3, 2022: the municipalities of Drap and Fontvieille officially integrate the Metropolis of Nice French Riviera
