Appalled, Hutchinson stepped in to stop the cruelty and rescue the hog. The incident crystallized Hutchinson's concern over widespread animal abuse, and he soon rallied 15 like-minded citizens to found the San Francisco SPCA.Today we are a mighty presence in the animal welfare community. Our vision is about creating a community where pets can live their best lives. Where animals not only have loving homes, but also access to medical care and the best welfare. We ask ourselves: How can we improve the quality of life for cats and dogs—and the people who love them?
