Sunflower Broadband (formerly known as Sunflower Cablevision) first entered the cable television business in 1970. Offering just 10 channels and a better picture quality than an antenna could provide, Sunflower Cablevision quickly became a household name in many homes in Lawrence and Douglas County. In 1975, Sunflower launched Channel 6 News, and became Lawrence's only local television news operation. In 1995, Sunflower became the first cable company to deploy DOCSIS modems to out subscribers and we followed that up with the launch of digital cable in 1998. Then in 2001, Sunflower Broadband became one of the first cable companies in the country to launch telephone service.
