La Leyenda del Dorado is South America's premier mountain bike stage race. Started in 2016 with the goal of promoting Colombia as a tourist destination via its incredible scenery, natural diversity and people, it's now in its fifth edition and open to professional and amateur cyclists from around the world. The route comprises an incredible seven stages and 450km of off road trails and singletracks, including over 12,000m of vertical ascent, through stunning Colombian countryside and pristine colonial towns, with thousands of spectators lining the route to cheer the hundreds of racers on.La Leyenda is widely regarded as one of the most challenging mountain bike races in the world and is accredited by the UCI with S1 categorisation, being one of a select group of cross-country marathon races around the globe to be able to guarantee a world class experience, both on and off the bike. It attracts high profile, international mountain bikers, such as World Champions Christoph Sauser, Alban Lakata, Tiago Ferreira and Sonya Looney, as well as media celebrities such as Valentí Sanjuan, promoting Colombia internationally as a premier sports tourism destination. Riders from 34 countries have so far participated in La Leyenda, contributing to an economic impact of over USD $2 million over the four years in the local area, and directly creating 130 jobs annually during the race. La Leyenda's sponsorship model works with leading multi-national and national brands as part of our race logistics, showcasing their products and services year round to both international and domestic audiences. In 2020 the Leyenda Series of one day races will be added to the portfolio of events, taking the tried and tested Leyenda concept to a mass market audience to cities around Colombia.
