While Shaw University is committed to offering educational opportunities to people of all backgrounds, as the oldest historically black university (HBCU) in the south, Shaw takes particular interest in providing opportunities for minorities. Student services at Shaw are intended to help students in all areas of their lives while at Shaw and in their transition to graduate school or the workforce. These include academic and career services, counseling services and a health center.
