Exciting Technology is a company based in Dayton, Ohio, the company was founded by Dr. Paul McManamon in 2008.Projects:1) Electro-Optical Crystal Growtha. PMN-PT single crystal growthb. PMN-PT thin film growthc. Polishingd. Cutting2) 10 Gb/s Laser communicationIn the summer of 2016 Exciting Technology conducted a free space lasercom experiment of a 10 Gbit/sec free space lasercom link for a commercial customer. The free space link was achieved through 15 meters of vacuum with off the shelf computer ethernet cards and fiber optics. ET is still supporting this commercial customer, who at this time has an operating 1.2 Tbit/sec fiber based lasercom link. 3) Shared Aperture LidarThis lidar was planned to be a 3D flash lidar using a linear mode 806 APD camera from Voxtel. BNS will deliver a 10 cm clear aperture PBG stack which can pass MWIR passive imagery without steering it, while steering NIR laser radiation. ET is also working with Northrup Grumman to try and transition this effort into the LITENING pod. ET also used an Innovac 512x640 format 2D array lidar camera for this contract, and a polarized 2-3 mj/pulse 1550 nm laser. The current laser on this sub-contract is only 10 hertz. 4) Non-Mechanical Beam SteeringET has worked on non-mechanical laser beam steering with liquid crystal polarization gratings supporting Boulder Nonlinear Systems. ET is developing continuous steering technology to be used in conjunction with discrete steering provided by BNS. ET has supported BNS on a number of specific projects in this technical area. ET has demonstrated non mechanical beam steering using bulk EO crystals on PMN-PT, SBN, and KTN. ET is developing thin film non mechanical beam steering. Once developed this will use tens of volts to drive it, and can eventually be made large, so beam steering angles for a fixed exit/entrance aperture size will be larger than bulk crystal steering.
