A medical device perfusion system for the resuscitation and repair of kidneys for transplantation from what is currently a non-accessible class of potential deceased donors given the medical technology barrier with the current standard of care. We are currently only accessing 4% of the potential organs that could be used to solve the organ shortage problem globally. The system is capable of maintaining an adequate level of oxidative metabolism ex vivo, to support de novo synthesis that allows ischemic damage to be reversed and repaired. BREONICS will increase the number of available organs by >5X via extending the window for recovering kidneys from deceased donors to at least 4X the current standard of care – from 30 minutes to 2 hours. The kidneys are flushed prior to transplant, thus non of the perfusate used in repair goes into the body. YThe device provides for viability assessment of kidney function prior to transplant.
