The Kalundborg Symbiosis is a partnership between twelve public and private companies in Kalundborg. Furthermore, we work closely together with project Biopro.Since 1972 we have developed the World's first industrial symbiosis with a circular approach to production. The main principle is that a residual flow in one company, becomes a resource in another, benefiting both the environment and the economy. Having a local partnership means that we can share and reuse resources, and that way we save money as well as minimize waste.Currently, the symbiosis counts 20 individual streams between 12 different public and private partners:- Novo Nordisk- Novozymes- Equinor Refining Denmark - Ørsted - Gyproc Saint-Gobain- Kalundborg Municipality- Kalundborg Utility- ARGO- Avista Green- Kalundborg Bioenergi- Chr. Hansen- UnibioThe Kalundborg Symbiosis is a private association, that is led by a board of directors, a yearly general meeting and a manager employed by the board. The Development Department of Kalundborg Municipality functions as a secretariat for the partnership, and among other things, runs the administrative part of visits to the symbiosis.
