Our Vision:To create a community that is free of domestic violence and safe for all.Our Mission:Family Shelter Service transforms lives by offering help and hope to those affected by domestic violence. Family Shelter Service's mission is to address the issue of domestic violence by providing services to victims of domestic violence through our three core programs: residential, counseling, and community advocacy. Our services include: safe, emergency housing which is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; two intermediate housing facilities for clients ready for independent living; individual, group, and family counseling; case management; employment services; court and victim advocacy; a 24-hour crisis hotline and a counseling program specifically designed for children. Services are available in English and in Spanish. Family Shelter also plays a vital role in raising community awareness through our PEACE project, providing education and engaging the community in a dialogue about this devastating societal issue. We have had services in DuPage County for 37 years, since our founders recognized that domestic violence was a root cause of homelessness among women and children. Our service data illustrates the sobering impact of domestic violence on our community. In the course of one funding year, we can expect to serve approximately 2,000 women and children. In our Residential Program, we anticipate providing approximately 10,000 nights of shelter; in our Community Counseling program, we will provide 12,000 hours of service. We know that many more domestic violence incidents go unreported.
