Psychiatric disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease, autism, chronic alcoholism, major depressive disorders, and schizophrenia, including recurrent depression and manic-depressive disorders, present with behavioral, cognitive, and mood symptoms. Therefore, it is understandable that therapeutic approaches have historically, and even at the present time, focused exclusively on treating symptoms. While treatment of symptoms is obviously of great importance, this approach is insufficient. The reason why is that by the time symptoms appear, changes at a molecular and cellular level have occurred for a long time – in some cases, such as Alzheimer's disease decades. Therefore, it is vitally important to treat more fundamental molecular and cellular causes of symptoms with the goal of preventing further progression of disease. To that end, Phfr, Inc. is targeting treatments aimed at nerve cell membranes, which are the communication centers of the brain, and energy production which is essential in maintaining the normal function of key membrane processes.
