The Club happily resides in a Queen Anne-style townhouse built in 1952 by the late property developer Rudolph Palumbo as his family office. It is enviably located next door to the Mansion House, NM Rothschild and Bloomberg's European HQ.After a good lunch at the Connaught Hotel in 1997 between Lord Peter Palumbo and his old friend Mark Birley, founder of the original Annabel's, Harry's Bar and Mark's Club, the idea of creating The Walbrook Club was born. We opened in 2000, with Albert Roux running the kitchens.The Club's style is that of an elegant private home. There is the Bar, Dining Room and two private rooms.The privileges of Membership are many. Members have access to monthly guest speakers where past and present heads of state, leading politicians, captains of industry and cultural icons speak. The Chatham House Rule applies.The annual five-course Fine Wine Dinner has seen prestigious chateaux, such as d'Yquem, Margaux, Vieux Château Certan, Haut-Brion, Lafite and Mouton-Rothschild, amongst many others, present vertical tastings of their vintages in the presence of the château's proprietor. The Shooting Syndicate enjoy a varied calendar of clay and game shoots. The Backgammon, Cards & Chess Evenings in the Bar are popular and the Club also organises the annual Women's Lunch Forum to promote women in the City. The under-35s host a dinner every two months, The Bond Court Dinner, and the City Lunches on the final Thursday of the month present engaging opportunities to meet fellow Members. Members may also make use of the Club's extensive network of both national and international reciprocal clubs.Membership is open on an equal basis to men and women, with a proposer and seconder required. The Club is equally happy to arrange for an interview with two existing Members. The Walbrook is (usually) open from 7:00am for breakfast, lunch and dinner until late, as well as throughout the day, from Monday to Friday. Weekends are by special arrangement.
