The Centre for Business and Commercial Laws was established in 2008 at the National Law Institute University, Bhopal (NLIU) as a 'Centre of Excellence', with the aim of generating awareness and facilitating research in the field of business and commercial laws. The Centre has been successfully organizing regular guest lectures, delivered by experts in the field of business law, has been organizing the 'Corporate Hour' discussion series on a monthly basis for updating students with the developments of law in this area, and also started 'The CBCL Blog' which invites submissions from students and practitioners on issues relevant to the areas of corporate law, law of arbitration, insolvency law, taxation law, and sports law. So far, the CBCL Blog has received positive reviews and feedback from both partners of firms and law students, alike. In addition, CBCL has also conducted two editions of the NLIU-TRA (Tanikella Rastogi Associates) Contract Drafting & Negotiation Competition.The flagship event of CBCL is the NLIU-Trilegal Summit on Corporate & Commercial Laws. The previous three editions of the Summit focusing on key issues pertaining to mergers and acquisitions, in 2016, 2017 and 2018 were a resounding success, witnessing submissions and participation by law students from across the country. The 2018 Summit was expanded to include corporate and commercial Laws attracted over 110 contributions, and was successfully concluded on 24-25 August 2018 with Mr. Yogesh Singh (Partner, Trilegal), Mr. Ramakant Rai (Partner, Trilegal) amongst the panelists.CBCL has also collaborated with Khaitan & Co to organise the NLIU –Khaitan Workshop on Corporate Laws, which was a two-day workshop heldon 10 – 11 FeFebruary 2018 and 9 – 10 February 2019. Mr. Ashish Razdan andMr. Vineet Shingal, Partners at Khaitan & Co, who discussed and interactedwith students over important deal structures, transaction documents, DueDiligence and FEMA Regulations, conducted the course.
