The establishment of kurdistan board for medical specialties came after many years of sufferings wich faced Kurdistan Region with shortage in medical specialists in the National Health Service. After uprising of 1991, there was no hope or path for training in all medical specialties due to United Nation sanction and Iraq Kurdistan Region. It was impossible to depent on scholarships outside the country as it was very expensive and not the ideal solution for the problems wich lead the authorities in Kurdistan to think about an alternative utilizing national potentials and experties inside and outside. Highe Education Conference was held in 2001 in Erbil to unify the regulations and rules of Kurdistan Univerisities (Salahaddin, Erbil and Duhok). During this conference the problem of postgraduatede medical training was discussed and a draft was prepared and submittied to Priminister's Office. Kurdistan Parliament has legislated a law for Kurdistan COuncil for Medical Specialization (KHCMS) in 2004. the law was further revised and legislated a law for under Chapter six of law Ten of Ministry of Higher Education and Scientiffic Research of Kurdistan Region , 2008. According to Kurdistan Higher Council for Medical Specializations is a training and institution admiistration, finance and legal statuse as any University. It has formally started to work after Primnster's Order on 22, February, 2009. So it is privilege and honor for all to participate in the training of the future Medical Specialists according to solid and scientific basis in formulating and monitoring the programs of trining and examiniations taking maximum advantages form the experiences of other counires in the field.
