For the past 28 years, Flying Doctors of America has brought together physicians, dentists, nurses, chiropractors, other support volunteers to care for "the poorest of the poor". These people live on the margin of life and often can not receive professional medical care. Flying Doctors of America is established on the "Mother Teresa Principle," caring for those in dire need, "the poorest of the poor" who live in conditions that most Americans can't imagine. There are many benefits for those who volunteer a week to give and go. Our medical and non-medical volunteers are absent only a few days from work yet experience the adventure of a lifetime. There are volunteers who are not medically trained yet serve as translators, team leaders, photographers and healthcare assistants. The donations that each team member makes is tax deductible (we are a 501-c-3 nonprofit) and covers the cost of the mission. But, really, the most important is reason that most members go is to make a real difference in our damaged world.
